On Saturday, Sept. 24, roughly 200 people gathered at the Bob and Wauneta Burkley Wellness Center to celebrate their 20th anniversary at an open house with fun activities for people of all ages.

Lana Likens, Public Relations Director at Jefferson Community Health Center, explained that she was very pleased with how the celebration went.

“We are estimating that we had about 200 people attend,” said Likens. “Everything went really well. People seemed to enjoy the activities and we had a lot of kids taking part in the pedal pull, the obstacle course and the events in the pool. We had a lot of family participation, which was really good. Overall, we just felt like things went very well.”

The event was meant to honor the anniversary of the opening of the Wellness Center in 1996. Since that time, the facility has seen some changes in equipment and in the types of programs and classes offered there. However, health remains at the core of the Wellness Center’s focus.

“The Bob and Wauneta Burkley Wellness Center has been offering the community opportunities for health and wellness for 20 years,” Likens said.

If people are interested in learning more about the Wellness Center, Likens encourages them to visit their website, give them a call at 402-729-6139. Another option that people have is to visit the facility.

“People are always welcome to drop by when the Wellness Center is open,” said Likens. “Staff would always be willing to take somebody on a tour or to talk to them about the services that we have. They’re always willing to show people the equipment we have and the facilities that we have, and to talk to them about how the Wellness Center can benefit them.”

Likens is excited about the future of the Wellness Center, and is grateful for all of the support that people have shown to keep it going. She emphasized that the future is bright.

“We are definitely looking forward to the next 20 years of the Wellness Center,” Likens said.
