2016 Shop Fairbury Challenge Underway

2016 Shop Fairbury Challenge Underway - Fairbury News Now Nebraska NE

As holiday shopping shifts into full gear, Fairbury area residents are encouraged to shop locally for their Christmas gifts this year. A six-week marketing campaign entitled “The Shop Fairbury Challenge” is underway, calling attention to more than 20 Fairbury businesses and non-profits that offer uniquely local gifts and services during this year’s holiday season.

For every $100 spent locally, $68 returns to the community. Shopping locally supports local businesses that create jobs and contribute to the community. “Local business owners know you, and you know them. Studies have shown that local businesses donate to community causes at more than twice the rate of chains or big box stores,” according to marketing specialist, Jenna Epp, of Main Street Consulting Group. “Shopping locally isn’t something that is done just at Christmastime, but should be a habit that is exercised year round. Every item purchased locally helps to fix our streets, support our teachers, protect our firefighters, and the list goes on and on.”

Fairbury.com has launched a campaign to bring local businesses and customers together using social media. “Posts on the Fairbury Nebraska and Fairbury.com Facebook pages and Twitter feeds (@FairburyNE) alert customers of local offerings by reaching out to them right where they are, on their smartphones,” according to owner, Julie Katz. Online advertising on Fairbury.com and specially designed posters and window decals by graphic designer, Lena Garner, help to bring it all together.

Shopping locally means there is something for everyone on your list, whether it’s purchasing a gift certificate to a local restaurant, hair salon or service provider or the latest electronic gadget, or booking a DJ service for your next event. Fairbury businesses provide a wide variety of offerings from which to choose. This year, shoppers can even sponsor a theatre seat by donating $250 to the Bonham Theatre Project’s “Chair-ity” campaign. According to Brooke Schwab, board President, “A tax-deductible donation to the Bonham is a great gift for a great cause and can be done in memory of a loved one.”
