(Marian Wallen, BNFF Head Coach)
Today was a great day. The boys 200 freestyle relay team came into the finals ranked 16, and finished in 14th place with their best time if the season. Members of that relay were; senior, Keegan Schuchart, senior, Austin Barber, senior, Regan Monhollon and sophomore, Colton Starck. Yesterday, in the relay, Colton Starck swam a personal best 50, as the lead off swimmer on the relay, and today he also swam a personal best 50 time. In order to break the school record they needed 1:32.55 and they swam a 1:32.87. Keegan, Austin and Regan, each also swam their best 50 split time. We are extremely proud of how well they performed today! It was a great way to end the season.
Something most people don’t realize is that swimming does not have classes, our competition is against the best in the state, all classes. So we are so proud of how well our divers and swimmers compete at the state meet.
Twenty-one years ago I started as an assistant coach under Sandi Hoffman, the past 4 years I’ve been head coach, and Dina Sheele became assistant coach. So this is kind of a sad day, seeing our first group of graduating seniors that we have had since they were freshmen, compete in their last meet. They have all been very dedicated and outstanding athletes not just in the pool but also in the classroom.
Senior state swimmers and divers were, Ben Gascon, Keegan Schuchart, Taylor Larkins, Ainsley Hostetler, Regan Monhollon, and Austin Barber.
As coaches, we will miss this group of seniors’ enthusiasm for the sport and their team spirit. Having 4 high schools on our coop team is always something people ask if it is difficult to manage. But as our team motto states, “NBFF”…”Nothing But Fast..Nothing But Family”
