The Diller-Odell Griffins battled hard against the Plainview Pirates on Thursday in the first playoff game of the season. Even though the Griffins gave it their all, they were unable to pull off a victory against the Pirates, ending their season with a 6-3 record.
The Griffins started the game with a bang Within the first five seconds, they scored two points on a safety after the Griffins brought down the Pirates in the end zone. They added more points to the scoreboard, scoring a touchdown and a successful two-point conversion. However, the Pirates responded with a show of force, working their way into the end zone two times before the end of the quarter. After a successful two point conversion, the Pirates took the lead, ending the quarter 14-10.
In the second quarter, Diller-Odell reclaimed the lead after a successful touchdown. Both teams rallied, putting points on the scoreboard. At the end of the half, the Pirates clenched the lead with a score of 38-22.
At the beginning of the third quarter, the Griffins showed they weren’t going down without a fight, scoring another eight points. The Pirates also scored another eight points, bringing the score at the end of the quarter to 46-30. The defense for both teams held strong in the fourth quarter, keeping each other out of the end zone. The Griffins fell to the Pirates with a final score of 46-30.
