The community is invited to attend the 2017 Booster Bash at Fairbury Jr./Sr. High School on Aug, 16 at 5:30 p.m., which will feature a speech from former UNK Head Wrestling Coach Marc Bauer.
The meal is free with a paid Fairbury Booster Club membership. According to Cheryl Trimm, President of the Fairbury Booster Club, the event serves as the clubs main membership drive and fundraiser. She hopes to see a large attendance.
“Our only purpose for existence is to raise money and donate all of that back to the students and their athletics and their activities at Fairbury High School,” Trimm said. “We gave out almost $15,000 in donations back to the school for various things. So, we want to encourage people, especially if they have kids in the Fairbury School System, to join and know that all that money that we raise goes right back to the students.”
Trimm is grateful to have Bauer agree to speak at the Booster Bash this year and hopes that everyone will be inspired by his story. She also noted that at the event, the cheerleaders will unveil some of their new stunts they have been practicing through the summer.
“Starting at 5:30, we’re going to be serving hamburgers and hot dogs and the trimmings to go along with that,” said Trimm. “Then at 6:30, we have our featured speaker Marc Bauer. He was the head coach there for 17 years but he stepped down to pursue his doctorate degree. He has a slew of awards and he’s had some pretty successful wrestlers come off of that team. So we’re really excited to have him come speak to the kids and the parents. I just think it’s going to be a good Booster Bash this year.”
Following Bauer’s speech, students, parents and coaches will meet to discuss the start of the sports season. Trimm noted that there have been some changes to the membership levels for the booster club. Overall, she is grateful for all of the support the community shows for the Fairbury Booster Club.
“We have four levels this year: bronze, silver, gold and platinum,” said Trimm. All of the information about our membership is on our Facebook page. With each level, there’s different perks. We have some gifts for each level of membership this year.”
