The Cornhusker National Trap Shoot was held at the NTA grounds in Doniphan NE, May 4-6, 2017. This was the final Jr. And Sr. High shoot of the season. A total of 842 Jr High and 1,640 high school trap shooters from across the state participated in the 3 day event. All schools, regardless of size, or student population, compete against each other. Therefore there is no class A, B, C, or D dividing them.
Fairbury brought home 4 individual medals.
Jr. High shooters Lane Zaboktrsky placed 13th with a 95×100 and Riley Stewart place 9th with 96×100 both from 16 yds.
Sr. High shooter Brock Barton placed 13th with 74×75 from 16 yds and 5th HOA with a combined score of 144×150 from 16’s and handicap from 25 yds
The Jr. High students shoot 100 targets from 16 yds and the high school students shoot 75 targets each from 16 yds and from the handicap, which is determined by their score on the 16 yd event.
High school students, a few years back, started shooting only 75 targets in each event due to the huge popularity and growth of the sport. This allows enough time for all shooters to finish the events in daylight, even though trap can be shot in the dark under the lights.
