It was a heartbreaking game for the Diller-Odell Griffins Friday night as they fell just a few points short of claiming the district championship during their game against the Lourdes Central Catholic Knights.
The Griffins started strong, scoring 12 points in the first quarter; however, the Knights responded with a strong second quarter, scoring three touchdowns bringing the score the 22-12 after some successful two-point conversions.
The Knights started off the third quarter with another touchdown and a successful two-point conversion, but the Griffins weren’t going down without a fight. They rallied, breaking through the Knights’ defense several times, taking the lead 36-30. Just before the end of the quarter, the Knights tied up the game with a touchdown.
In the fourth quarter, the Knights came back strong raising the score to 52-36. But the Griffins continued to play strong, scoring a touchdown and a successful two point conversion. With 36 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the Griffins passed the ball into the endzone, bringing the score to 52-50. They came close to tying the game and getting a shot at the district championship in overtime, but their two point conversion attempt fell just short, giving the Knights a victory.
Before the game Friday, Diller-Odell took time to recognize the senior players and their parents. Here are some photos from the ceremony:
