The Jansen Volunteer Fire Department has been working hard over the past few months to revive Jansen Fun Day, celebrating their community and raising funds for new equipment and training.
Andrew Grummert, who helped to organize the 2017 Jansen Fun Day explained that this is the first time they have hosted an event like this since the community’s centennial anniversary.
“We haven’t done this in a while,” said Grummert. “We brought it back because Jansen has a group of young guys on the fire department. We wanted to get the community’s name out there a little bit more and bring people together.”
Some of the events in this year’s celebration included a sand volleyball tournament, a water fight between firefights from Jansen, Plymouth and the Fairbury Rural Fire Department, and a car show. The Jansen Fire Department also hosted a pulled pork meal and entertainment by the Joker Band. Grummert hopes that the celebration will continue to grow.
“We just hope that this year has been a success,” Grummert said. “We’re going to continue it every year from here on and build on what we have. It helps get all the businesses in town together, and they provide funds to make this possible. We’re thankful for their support. Everyone came together to help out and just have fun.”
