Jefferson Community Health Center Offers Special Twitter Contest, JCHC, Fairbury News Now Nebraska Ne

The August Health Today session will be “The Importance of Advance Directives” by Duy Minh Ha, Ph.D., a third year medical student from the University of Nebraska Medical Center who is doing a rural family medicine rotation at Jefferson Community Health Center. The August session will be held on Friday, Aug. 26, in the Conference Rooms at Jefferson Community Health Center. The free educational program will begin at 12:20 p.m.

Health Today is a free monthly health education session offered by Jefferson Community Health Center. Participants are encouraged to bring their lunch, or are welcome to purchase lunch in the JCHC cafeteria, which is located near the Conference Rooms.

JCHC works with a wide variety of professionals who will be bringing educational programs on health-related topics each month. Please note that the day of the week for the session may change because of presenter schedules.

Reservations are not required. The program is FREE. The only cost for participants would be their lunch, if they choose to purchase it. Participants are also welcome to carry in their lunch.

Prenatal Childbirth Education Class Offered


FAIRBURY – A Prenatal Childbirth Education class will be offered in September at Jefferson Community Health Center for all expectant parents. The class will meet on Saturday, Sept. 10,  from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Jefferson Community Health Center.

The cost of the class is $35 per couple, which includes a free copy of the book “What to Expect the First Year.” The class is open to all expectant parents. Instructor for the course is Erin Starr RN.

The class will include information on changes which occur during pregnancy, knowing when you are in labor and what to expect, breathing, relaxation and other coping techniques, selecting your support team, pain relief measures, birth plan, recovery following delivery, newborn procedures in hospital, breast feeding basics and more.

Parkinson’s Support Group to Meet


The Parkinson’s Support Group will meet on Monday, Sept. 12, at 10 a.m. in Jefferson Community Health Center’s Small Conference Room.

The program will be “The Power of Exercise for Parkinson Patients” webinar by Becky Thompson MD, Senior Fellow, UNMC Department of Neurological Science.

Easiest access will be by parking in the H Street parking and entering through the JCHC Main Entrance. Follow the lobby signage to “Hospital.” The meeting rooms will be to the left. The Small Conference Room is the second door.

The Parkinson’s Support Group generally meets on the second Monday of each month. Please note a change in meeting week for the July meeting.

The group is designed to provide an opportunity for area residents to share their experiences with Parkinson’s disease. There is no cost for participants.
