Jefferson County Commissioner Mark Schoenrock filed for a new four year term as Jefferson County Commissioner serving the First District of Jefferson County on December 1.

Mark was born and raised in Jefferson County, his great-grandparents having first come to Jefferson County as farmers and ranchers in the late 1880s. Upon graduation from Fairbury High School and the University of Nebraska, he served 40 years in numerous leadership and management positions as an officer of the United States Army. Concluding his service to our nation, he and his wife of 40 years, Denise, returned home to Jefferson County.

In his service as a commissioner, he has led many efforts vital to maintaining and improving the quality of life in Jefferson County. Mark is a leader in the establishment of the Jefferson County school attendance support program, cybersecurity, emergency preparedness, road maintenance and improvements, workforce recruitment and retention, courthouse renovation, maintenance and 125th anniversary commemoration, planning and zoning coordination, and coordination with village, city, state and federal officials in many areas.

In addition to serving on the board of commissioners and his church board, he also actively serves on the boards of Blue Rivers Area Agency on Aging, Public Health Solutions district health board, Blue Valley Community Action, Fairbury TeamMates, and the 1923 school board, all to ensure the coordination and delivery of vital services and products in a fiscally responsible manner to the citizens of Jefferson County.

Mark earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska in agricultural economics with distinction, and a graduate degree from Webster University in management. He is a life member of the University of Nebraska alumni association and is a proud Cornhusker. He is a life member of the American Legion and VFW and presents many programs regarding patriotism and service in the area.

Emphasizing service, leadership and teamwork, he and his wife Denise are proud to call Jefferson County home.  “I am looking forward for the opportunity to continue representing my fellow ctizens of Jefferson County,” said Mark.  “It has been an honor to help lead Jefferson County on a path to prosperity.  I intend to work hard to ensure we stay on that path, addressing the challenges of the 21st century.”
