On Friday, the Meridian Mustangs took to the field to face off against the McCool Junction Mustangs, working hard to claim a homecoming victory over McCool Junction with a final score of 38-32.
The game was a nail-biter at times as the score remained close, both teams playing hard. In the first few minutes of the game, McCool Junction ran the ball into the end zone, chalking up seven points on the scoreboard after a successful point after attempt. Meridian responded quickly, recovering a fumble and scoring a touchdown and a successful two-point conversion. The McCool Junction Mustangs stayed busy throughout the first quarter, scoring a grand total of 20 points to Meridian’s eight.
In the second quarter, the Meridian Mustangs rallied, taking the lead against McCool Junction 24-20. That rally continued into the third quarter where the Meridian Mustangs solidified their lead; however, McCool Junction wasn’t going to go down without a fight. They scored one touchdown after receiving the ball from a kick-off. They scored again with 38 seconds left on the clock in the third, bringing the score to 38-32, Meridian leading. Each team’s defense prevented that score from changing in the fourth quarter, giving the Meridian Mustangs the first win of their season.
