To the Jefferson County Fair Board:
I was truly surprised and deeply honored to be presented “The I Made A Difference Award” at the Jefferson County Fair by Board President Lois Welsh.
Over the past number of years I have found it rewarding to volunteer at the fair and to sponsor 4-H trophies and the ribbons for the school department.
The award is accepted on behalf of all of the exhibitors, both youth and adult, volunteers and the fair board members who work a whole year for this one week for all of us to participate in and enjoy the fair. This year’s fair was another success with a wide variety number of exhibits to view and events to attend.
In 1948 I turned ten years of age and was able to join the Prairie Home 4-H Club at Hollenberg, Kansas. My project was Hampshire hogs which I took to the Washington County Fair. In those years we could stay in the animal barn overnight to watch over our animals, which I did. One evening someone came up to me and said that my hogs were out of their pen and wandering around the area. Some people helped me get them back into their pen and get the gate secured. I tell people that the hogs just wanted to stroll down the midway and enjoy the carnival.
The clock is ticking away on the plaque and each time I look to check the time it will be that much closer to the 2018 Jefferson County Fair!
I appreciate the honor and it will make me more dedicated to serve our community.
