Preschoolers at the Preschool Learning Center in Fairbury had the opportunity to celebrate family by spending time with their grandparents on Thursday.
Martha Welsch, teacher at the Preschool Learning Center, explained that having grandparent day is a way to reach across generations to form stronger connections between the students and their grandparents.
“We’re celebrating our grandparents and we’re celebrating our heritage,” said Welsch. “We’re getting all of our family members involved in the school, which sets a good base for the kids.”
The students kicked off the event with a song to welcome their grandparents.
From there, the students traced their hands and the hands of their grandparents as part of a creative activity to create a craft. After they finished their projects, the preschoolers took them on a tour of the classrooms.
“We’re making sure they’re working together,” Welsch said. “The look on the students’ faces when they came in was great. You see them light up and they just want to run to their grandparents right away because they’re special people in their lives. To have those people involved in their school just ties it all together and sets a great foundation for the importance of education in their lives.”
