Quilt of Valor Presented At Fair, Fairbury News Now Nebraska

Monday, July 11 at the Jefferson County Fair Public Fashion Show, 4-H member Allison Engelman presented a Quilt of Valor to her Great-Grandfather, Franklin Damrow of Diller.   Franklin was in the United States Army Air Force and is a World War II veteran.  The Quilt of Valor will be displayed at the Nebraska State Fair later this summer.

The Quilts of Valor Program was organized as a way to honor those who have served the country by presenting service members and veterans with a specially-made quilt. Sara and Emily Huss also participated in the Quilts of Valor program this year, presenting one during the Style Revue at the Jefferson County Fair. Their quilt will go to Stan Kirkendall of Oklahoma who served during the Vietnam War with their grandfather Dennis Kugel. Kirkendall and Kugel maintained a special bond as they served in the war. They were never split apart during the time they served.
