The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office participated in the nationwide You Drink & Drive You Lose campaign, which ran from August 19, 2016 through September 5, 2016. During that time period there were increased patrols. The extra patrol time was possible through a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety (NOHS). This grant allowed deputies to work extra time in order to increase the enforcement of traffic laws and specifically increase patrol for alcohol related violations.

During the enforcement dates, Deputies contacted 96 vehicles. One arrest was made for 1st Offense Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. There were 89 warning/defect cards and 20 citations issued. Some warnings and citations had more than one violation listed.

Official citations included: Eight for speeding, Four for minor in possession of alcohol, Three for stop sign violations, Two for no proof of insurance, One for littering, One for no operator’s license, and One citation for driving under the influence of alcohol (also jailed for the offense).

The extra time worked by deputies will be paid for by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
