The 4th Annual Gray Out for Type 1 Diabetes Awareness will be held on December 5 during the Fairbury vs Superior basketball games. This year Superior will be hosting the event, since the games are at Superior.
The IN Group, a Type 1 Diabetic Support Group for 6 Fairbury Public School students and their families, Superior Public Schools students and their families, along with the Fairbury FCCLA, and both Basketball teams use this night to raise awareness about Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), along with showing support to these families that deal with this silent disease on a daily basis.
Type 1 Diabetes happens when the body destroys its own cells that make insulin. Insulin is a hormone that everyone needs in order to get energy from the food they eat. Our bodies need insulin to survive.
This is the second year the two schools have joined forces to raise awareness and funds. Proceeds from the sale of t-shirts will go directly to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) who is working to make Type 1, Type None. Business sponsorships will be used for Diabetes Camp Scholarships for the students and to JDRF.
T-shirt orders are being taken until November 16th. Order forms will be sent home with Central and Jefferson students. High school students may pick their order forms up in the high school office.
